Journal Entry Ten

19. Juni 2020

There has not been much to journal about over the past couple of months. The virus that has affected the world is still ruling our daily lives. The daily protests in Ludwigplatz, Eberbach’s City Centre, have let up for the most part. Although with our stressed economy, I fear there will be a resurgence of protesters in the not-so-distant future.

Prime Minister Northcott and his party, the NCD (Neu Christlich Demokratische Partei Dorstenlands), continue to make headlines throughout the country. Northcott appears to have taken a nationalistic approach to our economy as Dorstenland attempts to reopen from the COVID-19 closures. The way he pushes for the reopening of our economy reminds me of the type of rhetoric not seen in Europe since the rise of Adolf Hitler.

Not only is Northcott focusing on a Dorstenland above-all vision, but his not too subtle threats for withdrawing funding to the United Nations has many alarmed, including King Jonas. The king made his position clear during his monthly meeting with the prime minister. Jonas made sure that I let the UN Security Council know, through back-channels of course, that he would not allow Dorstenland to withdraw our support of the UN.

As Prime Minister Northcott and I left his meeting with Jonas, we engaged in a heated argument over Northcott’s domestic and foreign policies. Northcott accused me of putting the royal family above our country’s interests. This accusation was an outright lie. I briefed King Jonas on our encounter, and once more, I warned Jonas that the prime minister has a hidden agenda that directly involves the royal family.

One thing concerning me is that there are members of Northcott’s political party in parliament who have threatened to propose a ban on Facebook in Dorstenland if the social media giant does not reign in fake news stories. However, I should point out what Northcott and his party deem are fake stories, are instead mostly accurate. Is this an attempt by Northcott to silence the free speech of Dorstenland’s citizens? I would not doubt it, but at this time, I have no proof.

My family and I have returned to our home, which is down the hill from the palace. It feels good to sleep in my bed again since my family and I had started staying with the royal family due to COVID-19.
