Journal Entry 14
30. Juni 2020
Today’s press conference by the prime minister in which he announced the death of the man who tried to assassinate the king was chilling. The explanation Prime Minister Northcott provided for the prisoner’s “suicide” seemed a bit contrived. At least to me, his demeanor appeared to harden the more questions that were asked by the press.
As with most of the prime minister’s press conferences, I stood at the rear of the press hall as a representative of King Jonas. What sent chills through my bones was that every time the prime minister said the word “suicide,” he looked directly at me. I know that his eye contact with me and the tone of his voice was more of a warning. A threat.
While writing this journal entry, I am reminded of how Katrina said she thought that the children and her might had been followed while they were shopping. Am I jumping to conclusions? Was the prime minister focusing on me? Perhaps the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are affecting my psyche, or maybe I am still tired from the events of my visit with the king to Port Deighton Prison. I am not sure I recovered from the violent seasickness I experienced yesterday on the royal yacht.
After tonight’s dinner, Otto asked to speak to me alone. He asked if I had ever mentioned to Jonas about me finding him with Princess Emily in a room in the lower level of the palace. I told him I had indeed. Now that I think about it, I wonder why Otto is asking me this right now since the situation happened in April. Did Jonas ever talk about this with his daughter? Most likely, he has not, as I assume that Princess Emily would have let Otto know. Now I wonder if I should revisit this subject with the king.
Glancing at our antique Cuckoo clock on the wall of my study, I realize it will soon chime midnight. I should probably go to bed. Tomorrow I will facilitate a video conferencing meeting between King Jonas, Queen Claudia, and The Netherland’s King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima. The conference is to let their highnesses know Jonas’s intent to purchase Dutch vehicles for his low-income renovation organization, The Royal Dietrich Foundation. Jonas is particularly interested in DAF trucks, especially the DAF LF model, to transport building supplies for his foundation’s renovation initiatives.
