Journal Entry 16
17. Juli 2020
It is tough for me to write this journal entry. The king said it would be therapeutic to write down my thoughts and feelings to keep myself focused. My hand is trembling as I write down these words. I am numb. I am scared. I am furious. I am exhausted. I am deeply depressed. I cannot eat. I am lost without knowing the whereabouts of my family. I blame myself every day for not being home when my family needed me the most.
Thirteen days have passed since the abduction. Thirteen days of pure torture in my heart. Thirteen days of not hearing one word on the location of Karina, Otto, and Emma. My little Emma must be frightened beyond words. It breaks my heart to think that she is probably praying every minute that I will come through the door and rescue them, wherever that is.
When I look in the mirror, I do not even recognize myself anymore. My eyes are swollen and bloodshot from the strain of searching night and day. My face appears sunken. I cannot remember the last time I trimmed my short beard. Have I even showered or changed my clothes? I am sure that I have. I honestly cannot even think straight right now. Nothing around me seems real anymore.
This morning in Otto’s bedroom, I looked once more in every nook and cranny for any clue to my family’s kidnapping. I did not know what I was looking for. Afterward, I did the same in Emma’s bedroom. I followed that room up by searching every inch of Karina’s office on the third floor. There has got to be something inside the house that will give investigators a lead. Then again, maybe there are no more clues to be found. The forensic teams did not find one hair strand or fingerprint that did not belong to a resident of the house.
On the night of the 4th, Jonas and I were headed inside the parliament building so the king could address parliament on Prime Minister Northcott’s threats towards me. We believe that Karina and the children were taken soon after Eberbach lost power that same night. The six-and-a-half-hour outage had caused the postponement of the king’s emergency address.
The security cameras on the grounds of our estate went out at the same time as the power outage. Our emergency generator, located on the side of our car park, failed.
The only piece of evidence found by the forensic teams were the sliced power cables coming out of the power generator. This piece of evidence shows that without a doubt, the abduction was carried out by professionals and was to coincide with the city-wide power outage.
I know who had my family kidnapped. Unfortunately, I do not have any proof. Not one piece of evidence.
